Stories of Luck and Grace
What You Need
My husband recounted this event, which occurred on the morning of Saturday,
January 9, 2010.
A normally cheerful waitress, Anita, came to work decrying her current financial
situation, saying she desperately needed $500 to pay some emergency bills. She
was beside herself.
My husband turned to his cook and said, “Stick, loan me a few dollars, will you?”
The cook gave him five bucks.
My husband added five bucks and handed the money to Anita and said, “Here, go
play the lottery.”  He routinely gave her a few dollars to play the lottery and their
agreement was that if they ever hit, they would split the winnings. He went about
his business and forgot about it.
About an hour later that morning, he heard a hoot and holler from the bar.
They had won a thousand dollars. Her half was exactly the $500 she needed.
My husband gave Stick some of his share, but he showed me hundreds of dollars.
(Later, Anita confirmed this story.)

That’s a story of luck and grace.
Apparently, my husband had been unusually quiet for the rest of the day. When
asked about that by the staff, he said it was because he felt so “freaky” that he
had such power. Now he says he is going to go for a million.
